This last Tuesday I had the pleasure of tumbling 200 feet down the the cliff like hill off a road called Grizzly Peak. I used to think it was named for the Bear. Like...a Grizzly had onbce lived up there. Now I realize that it it so named for The Grizzly Wrecks that occur there. We were in a Mitsubishie Eclispe With 16 valves and a Turbo. We were not driving like we should have been. We should have been going nuts racing around corners and squeeling tires. Like guys normally do. We were going up to take a picture of the rocket sled on wheels so my friend could sell it before it killed him like everyone said it would. We hit a bit of mud and water and pine needles in the road. Then slid sideways toward the cliff. Eamon, the driver counter steered and we slid the other way. I was not nervous because he is a very good driver. Then we hit the road surface and pitched back toward and then...over the edge. I was still not scared. I figured we'd slide a few feet and stop. Eamon was still trying to drive down the cliff. Like we were doing a stunt in a movie and we would shoot out way below on Skyline still intact somehow. That didnt happen. We hit something and started flipping. Faster and faster for 200 feet until we slammed Hard, against a stump 30 feet from Skyline. The stump had hit the door post right behind Eamon's head. Inches either way...well...we'll leave that alone. I looked up and saw a triangle of light.
While I tried to extricate myself from the car Eamon, who couldn't unfasten his seat belt and was stuck was working hard at getting to the ignition to turn off the engine. Not blow up. Important stuff. I crawled out the back window and He handed me the Steering wheel with some of the column still attached and Said "Here TK you drive. The helpful man down below on the road who had appeared as if by magic warned me that the car was moving. Having tested before climbing out I kew it wasnt and yelled. "No it's not" then turned to Eamon who was asking for a knife to help get loose and said in hushed hurried tone. Get out now. In the next moment or 2 he was magically standing next to me. We both walked away (in an ambulance) with minor injuries into a whole reality with a Demacratic President of Color and a strong hope for a bright new world with Art and life and money for infrastructure and education and healthcare. There were several more miracles besides our own 2 personal miracles that day and I am happy to be here to share in and hopefully help shape this bright new Renaissance.
I wanted say one more time that I love you all.
